'The Medusa Project: The Rescue' by Sophie McKenzie
Now this is what I call a good book!! It's everything you'd want in a book and more! In parts it was particularly sad but then again, in parts it had me on the edge of my seat! (well, nearly...) It really is a fantastic book - top marks to Sophie McKenzie once again! I believe it is the best in the Medusa series and would highly recommend it to others! Mind you, I would also recommend reading the others first... I was disspaointed when I finished it as it was so, so good! What have you all been reading? Phoebe :)

'Six Steps to a Girl' by Sophie McKenzie
I've just read 'Six Steps to a Girl' by Sophie McKenzie (which I borrowed from Lauren) and am slightly dissapointed. I asked to borrow it as it is by Sophie McKenzie and I expected it to be amazing; like her other books. Unfortunately, it wasn't amazing...but it was good. It was good enough to make me keep reading and it was quite a page-turner. Had I read it before her other books, I may have thought it better but Sophie McKenzie set such a high standard with her other books, this one dissapointed me. I think it was possibly aimed more at someone slightly younger than myself. I'm not saying this is a bad book at all and I would recommend it but it just didn't live up to her high standards. Mind you, I think it was one of the first books she wrote so she probably got better as she went along. I'm hopefully going to read 'The Rescue' soon but in the meantime I'm a bit 'book-less' or so to speak. Anyway, I hope you're all well and enjoying the holidays! 2nd Guest Blogger - Megz R - Aubrey making me cry
Hey Everyone This is Meg (Russon - Pheebs asked me to write a review) hope u r all ok! Today I'm reviewing on 1. Love, Aubrey (so brilliant!) So, Love, Aubrey. I have NEVER EVER read such an amazing, sensitive, heartfelt book. Aubrey is a young girl of the age of eleven, and at first it is unclear what has happened, all you know is that she has been left on her own in the house. With only a 'betta fish' called Sammy for company, she is quite content just the two of them. After an incident involving the local church ladies, Aubrey stops answering the phone. Day after day it rings and rings, but she never answers. This chain of events leads to her Grandmother turning up on the doorstep (Gram) and, soon, the story is out that Aubrey's mother has abandoned her. (If you're not crying in this part of the book yet, SHAME ON YOU!) Gram takes Aubrey to live with her in Vermont, America. (Aubrey lived in America already - this story is set in America.) Aubrey is determined to hate it, but after meeting a girl her age Bridget next-door, she can't help but enjoy herself. However, a dark memory is lingering...a memory so awful that it is driving Aubrey to madness. Can Gram, Bridget and her lost Mother help her to pick up the pieces and continue to live? OMD...SO FANTASTIC! I cried bucketloads (which is a bit embarrasing as I took it on hols with me and loads of people were staring as I read it and cried on the sunbed...streaked mascara + puffy eyes = not a good look!) Please read this book. If you haven't, you have NOT LIVED! I think I got a little overexcited there. Meg xxx ps thx for letting me review!

City of Ships!
On the off chance that there might be a new book by Mary Hoffman, I went on her website. And you'll never guess what! A new book of her- The City of Ships- has come out! It will be on the Carnegie short-list for sure! Wow! Why don't they say that there is another book in the series to come out in the back of the book? Why? Why? Why? I thought this AMAZING series had finished! I was sooo sad about it too! But no, that book has come out, and another- The City of Swords- will be coming out in 2012! Yay!! Amelia :-) P.s I forgot to say that as soon as I saw that there was a new book I saw the option "Download the first chapter." Anyone can guess what I did!

1st Guest Blogger- Freya- a review on The Tail of Emily Windsnap
Emily Windsnap is an a enchanting tale about a ten-year old girl. She has lived on a boat all her life but has never been in the water. So one day Emily asks her Mother to have swimming lessons. Her mother gives in. Emily goes for her first swimming lesson and the most mysterious thing happens. Her feet tighten together and stick then she discovers she has a tail! It is a brilliant tale about her moments as a mermaid meeting Shona Silkfin and meeting people she will never forget. Freya Noonan (By the way MIZZ recommended this book!)

Holidays!
Its a week into the Holidays now, and I haven't read anything yet! (I didn't think that magazines really counted!) But I have thought up a story for any of you who are bored and have time to read it! Its a bit like a myth or legend crossed with a cheesy Disney film! Once upon a time, there lived a King of the Oceans, King Neptune. He had a beautiful Mermaid daughter called Oceana (yes, I made that name up, but it sounds Mermaid-y) and she loved to swim! (She is a Mermaid!) Anyway, one day she swam out far across the ocean to waters where humans roamed. It was there that she met a kind fisherman and they instantly fell in love. After that at the same time everyday they would meet in secret and talk to each other. Until one day one of the Kings spies (don't ask me why he has them) saw Oceana with the fisherman and told the King. He was furious, and banished her to the castle forever. (Yes, forever, but that's merely a figure of speech as-) One day a servant left a window open and she slipped out to see him. However when she came back to the fisherman he wasn't as kind. He had sat there waiting for her to return but she hadn't. As soon as he saw her he caught her with his fishing net and killed her. Another one of the Kings Spies (yes, another!) had seen this and told the King. The King, so upset, sent large waves after the fisherman whose boat was toppled over and he drowned. And since then waves have come from Neptune's world to prevent anyone discovering the Mermaids again! The End. Thank you for reading, feel free to blog about it. Amelia :-)

Holiday reading!
Hello everyone! I hope you're enjoying your holidays - I am! I know most of you are currently on holiday but I thought I'd post anyway! I'm now reading 'Pets in Prospect' by Malcolm D Welshman as mentioned previously and I'm absolutely loving it! My prize-giving book!
I was lucky enough to receive a prize at the school's annual prize giving ceremony 2010. As part of our prize, we were able to get a book... After much deliberation I chose 'Pets in Prospect' by Malcolm D Welshman which I would imaging many of you would never have heard of. It is by a vet and is about his life (mainly the veterinary aspect of it, much to my delight). I haven't actually read it yet but it has raving reviews and I'm really looking forwards to reading it very soon! Phoebe :)

An Incredible Book
I can't believe that I haven't blogged about this book before! (Correct me if I have!) Ballet Shoes, By Noel Streatfield. I loved reading it, because when I was younger (and I am talking about, in year 2) I wanted to be a ballerina! And on my birthday both of my Grandparents brought me a copy of this book! It is a very special book, and if I had to name an all-time favourite I would definately say this would be my favourite!!! (Though, Medusa Project is up there too!) If any of you are looking for a book to read this Summer I reccomend this one for sure! Mia :-) P.s I know Phoebe agrees with me that this is a great book too!

Sophie McKenzie is coming to Huish!! Yes, really! She's coming on Monday 4th October at 10am and she's signing books! I'm going to have to buy all her books now so she can sign them! It's brilliant as she's a totally amazing author and her books are incredible (the best I've ever read!)! I think she's going to be promoting her new book 'Blood Ransom' (the sequel to 'Blood Ties') so if you haven't read it yet (shame on you), read it before then!The excitement is too great! Hehehe... Threads by Sophia Bennett
I have just read 'Threads' by Sophia Bennett and I thought it was brilliant! It was a really charming story and I loved it! It was very interesting - all about fashion, designing, friendship, poverty, charities...etc It also covered some important issues such as 'Invisible Children' in poor countries and other terrible things. It was a heart-warming tale and I really enjoyed it and would recommend it! Also, the way the author writes makes you build a strong picture in your head whuich I think is fantastic! Phoebe :) ps I must say, it was much better than I expected and there is now a second one in the series (which I will be trying to get my hands on!).

I don't mean in the realistic way, I mean in the way that you know what people are saying and what they're feeling. You have GOT to read this book, as it's so amazing. So... we have a winner!
I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that! I really thought 'Nation' or 'Fever Crumb' would win! Amelia, even if I read 'The Graveyard Book' now I don't think I would enjoy it because it just isn't my thing! Mrs Baker/Miss Harris, do you know if we can still use this website throughout the year? Or will it become unavailable as the Carnegie business has finished? I hope we can still use it because it is a great way to get people talking about books! Unfortunately I am unable to be at the meeting tomorrow or the assembly on Monday but what I will do is write a few words about the winner etc and give it to one of you in the morning to read out on the film if that's ok. Winner!
Yay! The Graveyard book won! I wanted it to win, I think it's immense!! Though, in all my excitement and screaming, I do think of Nation, and if there was a second prize it would definitely go to Nation, simply because the way it is written. But I am glad that The Graveyard Book did win because the idea behind it was superb and it really was a great and enjoyable book. I love the title to it too, because it makes you think, OK, put this book down! I am glad I didn't! But funnily enough I remember going to the library in the Winter when the Carnegie club had just started I came into the library and looked through the 40 shortlisted and tried to find some. I found two, one I can't even remember the name of, and the other the Graveyard Book. I had started to read the other book when during Form time Phoebe asked me "Can I borrow a book?" I fished out The Graveyard book from my bag and gave it to her. By the end of Form Phoebe gave me the book back and said "don't read it, it's rubbish!" Well Phoebe, I can't prove that you are wrong about Fever Crumb, but let me tell you, you are wrong about the Graveyard Book, and when you read it, you will recognise the mistake you made!!!!!! I have very strong opinions on these things!!! (Everyone has the right to!) See you CKG-ers on Friday!!!!

Thursday 24th June Meeting

'Blood Ties' and 'Girl, Missing' by Sophie McKenzie
I have just read 'Blood Ties' and 'Girl, Missing' by Sophie McKenzie and... well, what can I say! Absolutely amazing! Some of the best books I've read. She is one of the best authors I've come across. Only she could create so much tension and excitement with a few words! The language she uses and the style she writes in wow me every time! I have just found out that there is to be at least two more 'Medusa' books and another in the 'Blood Ties' series!! They are both incredible books that make you gasp, cry, ooh, aah and lots more! I would recommend them to girls specifically as they have a hint of romance but I imagine boys will enjoy them too. I can't praise them enough to be honest and I want to read more like them! Corinne and Amelia, you will love them. Lauren and Megan, you might but I'm not too sure. Give them a try though! Phoebe :)

The Carnegie Shortlist
Sorry, I have been away for a bit so I couldn't help with the Carnegie Board! However, whilist I was on Holiday I finished all of the Shortlisted books, because I could not hold the suspense and I brought Chains at the airport (so anyone who wants to read it can borrow it from me if they like!) I enjoyed all of the books I read (Nation, The Vanishing and Chains) and I know that Lauren is enjoying Chains too (more than Graveyard book at least!) I will write book reviews on the books soon! 'Blood Ties' by Sophie McKenzie
As promised, I have started to read 'Blood Ties' and it's fantastic (so far)! It is very similar to the Medusa books so anybody who loved them will love this! I willl post a full review when I've finished. I've only read 50 pages but I'm enjoying it! Phoebe :)

Ummm.... A few bits and bobs....
I said that during half-term I would read 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time' and 'Blood Ties'. In fact, (you have permission to tell me off) I didn't read either. I was busy and I got distracted by another book! I'm sorrrrryy. Tonight I will try and start 'Blood Ties'. I would like to read a shortlisted book but none of them seem to be my sort of thing. I am going to wait until Amelia returns from her holiday (Wednesday I think) because she has been reading 'Nation' and 'The Vanishing of Katharina Linden' and I would like to read her reviews beforehand. Also, Lauren has just got 'Chains' out of the library so I would be interested to see what she thinks! I am going to try to read at least one of the shortlisted books before the winner is announced (it is a Thursday so we can have a mini Carnegie party at our meeting...depending of course on who wins!!) I've got to go now, the bell's just gone!! Phoebe :)

Love Aubrey
It is a very sad book about an 11 year old girl whose life has been changed forever by a car crash. Left alone her kind grandmother comes to look after her and together they try to find her missing mother. However Aubrey is confused and has to make a very hard desicion. This book is very sad and will probably make you cry because of how well writen it is... Make sure you read it!

Phoebe's Fever Crumb Review
I respect your opinion Phoebe, but there are a few things I can't get my head around. 1. The made-up names buisness. The name Fever came from an age where people named their children after illness'. For example: Backbone, diarrhoea. This may sound a bit silly, but in another century's time people will look back and might even say things like "Who would name their child Amelia?" I'm not saying Fever is a perfectly normal name in this period of time, but actually the reason behind the name is quite realistic. 2. Place names. I thought that the names were quite realistic myself, and the of places names didn't actually bother me, and I didn't think anything of it. 3. I didn't think that Twilight had a very good or interesting beginning either. But I stuck at the book and it turned out to be really good, so I respect your opinions Phoebe, but I think you should give it another chance! Amelia :-)

Half-term reading material
Hi everyone, I'm really looking forwards to half-term and I hope I'll get plenty of reading done as unfortunately I haven't been reading very much lately. I'm planning on reading 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time' by Mark Haddon (I think) and 'Blood Ties' by Sophie McKenzie. I'll post reviews on these asap (or asasp - as soon as suits Patrick - in Corinne's case). I took a closer look at the shortlist as I thought it would be a good idea to read one of them but none of them make me want to read them so I decided against those. Phoebe :)

The Graveyard Book
This book sounds good but if I saw it I would not be willing to read it. The picture on the front does not really make the book look very good. Amelia says she read it and really enjoyed it but to me it just does not look that good. The cover of chains looks very interesting though, the look on that girls face makes you think about how she might be feeling! Megan :) ;) ps. I know Marie agrees with me :)

'Fever Crumb' by Phillip Reeve
I began to read 'Fever Crumb' today as Amelia had given it such a good review but I had only read around 15 pages when I had to stop reading - I was so bored! It didn't explain what was going on at all so made it really boring. Also, some of the made-up names of people and places were really stupid to be honest. I know Amelia won't like this review but I think it is important for everyone to express their own opinions. It really didn't have a good beginning. In fact, it was so bad I didn't even read any further which is a shame and let the book down. Phoebe :)

The Carnegie's book of the week!
I think, that for at least the first book, most/all of the Carnegie group should have read the book we choose as the book of the week. Therefore, I think we should chose Love, Aubrey, because it is a book that we all like and would agree on. I do think that the Medusa Project is a good idea too! Of to finish Rowan the Strange now! I am on fire with reading these Carnegie books this week! Anyway, Revolver isn't as good as I hoped it would be. I think I actually got 3 comments about this book in one day when people saw that I was reading a book called Revolver. This seemed like a good sign in some ways, and it got me more excited about reading this book! But sadly, it did not live up to my expectations, and it was only halfway when the proper part of the story actually began. From then it was better, but like Love, Aubrey, its beginning let it down, and even at the end I wasn't left thinking "Wow, that was a brilliant ending!) On the whole I would call it an all round average book, purely because it was. The Characters where 5/10. The plot is 5/10. The overall style was 5/10. Maybe boys would enjoy it more, but I don't think there is much difference really! I looked at some of the reviews for it, by both girls and boys, and there were lots of mixed comments in them. One thing that came up in almost every review were the flashbacks. I can't say I don't agree with them! Love, Aubrey is a better book than this one is, and should replace it on the short list! Fever Crumb
This blog is purely written, just to get over this book in black and white (well actually in a whole array of colours, but anyway!) I LOVED this book! I read Mortal Engines before and I don't think I had ever read a book so quickly before! If anything, I read this book quicker!!! Fever Crumb is absolutely, positively, fantastic! I know that some of The Carnegie Club have already decided to read it but those of you who aren't going to, I recommend it strongly, if you want to have a sneak preview of what the Carnegie winner will be! The Ask and the Answer
I personally think this book is fab! There is no way that it beats Love, Aubrey but I enjoyed it all the same. I hadn't read the first book, the Knife of Never Letting go, but I still understood it. Only one think though. I know I have already said this, but I don't think that you guys will enjoy this book as much as I did, but read it by all means!! Amelia :-)

Diary of wimpy Kid
This book rocks, and it is really funny and I recomend this book to all! I dont get into books very easily but this one is bril. It is like a diary well it is. I do think you guys will enjoy this book it rocks I cant wait too see what happens at the end! From Megz ;) :) :D

That, I Think, is the Problem....
I think the reason that you didn't like 'Love, Aubrey' Mia, is that you read it to try and prove us wrong, to look at it critically, so as to further your reason why it shouldn't have been on the ShortList. If you had just read to see what it was like, as you do many other books, I think you would've enjoyed it a lot more, but because we all love it, and you didn't, maybe that's why you feel so strongly about it? I'm not really sure, I think I'm just trying to defend 'Love, Aubrey' - who knows! But, seriously, you might want to try reading it again, later, when you've forgotten about it, just read it as you would any other book, and you might like it more... Corinne ;)

13 treasures
Hi everyone, sarah here how is everything? I'm in the middle of a great book. The 13 treasures. It's exiting and I can't put it down!!! It's full of mystery. It's about a girl who can see fairy and because of that they keep annoying her. Anyway she gets sent to her grandmothers house, (she hates her), wich is full of anoying fairys.while she's there she tries to uncover the mystery of a missing girl who went missing 50 years ago. To add to the suspention tanya (the main character) and her best friend , Fabian, thought they saw the woman who is still missing as a young girl in a forrest filled with bad stuff.

What happened to Love, Aubrey? The Ask and The Answer!
I had written before to try and solve the problem of why Love, Aubrey did not make hte shortlist. Before, I picked up on this on the Carnegie website: "The book that wins the Carnegie Medal should be a book of outstanding literary quality. The whole work should provide pleasure, not merely from the surface enjoyment of a good read, but also the deeper subconscious satisfaction of having gone through a vicarious, but at the time of reading, a real experience that is retained afterwards." I can now say that I have read it, and I shall write my verdict. I was reading Love, Aubrey through a critics eye, and I can now say that it did not fulfil my high hopes for this book. No doubt it is a fantastic book, but it is not a Carnegie winner. If I had not had been so keen to read it to prove the others wrong that it was not the best book ever, I probably would not have finished it in one clean swipe! The book was hard to get into. You fell in love with Aubrey, and the ending really left a mark in your heart but I think the whole beginning let the book down! I did not find it was of "outstanding literal quaility, and I can see why it did not make the shortlist!! Sorry! Amelia :-)

Soul Surfer
I have recently finished Soul Surfer. And I think that it was really good but very sad because the book is about Bethany who loves to surf but gets attacked by a shark which causes her to lose an arm. But the story is about her facing her fears and getting back into the water and all the fame she has suddenly gained after the attack.

I have read Mortal Engines which is the story before Fever Crumb. I think it is one of the best books I have ever read because of the excitement, romance, and mystery to it! I can see why it won so many awards!!! Amelia :-)

Poetry Competition on Carnegie website
There's a poetry competition on the main Carnegie website page - left hand side of the page with a title of 'Encouraging creativity among young people'. Closing date 1 June 2010. 1st prize - an invitation to the awards ceremony in London on June 24, a visit to the school by a former Carnegie winning author and copies of the shortlisted books. 2 runners up will each receive a full set of the Carnegie and Greenaway shortlisted books. Fantastic Blog
I would like to congratulate the bloggers on their fantatic creation. It is wonderful to see that you are using the internet to express your views between our meetings and even between continents! I was pleased to get the chance to read the popular 'Love Aubrey' and be introduced to a new author. I agree with your comments that Suzanne Lafleur certainly did take us on an emotional journey with the main character. I thought she created a convincing character in Aubrey, especially the way that she used letters to convey how Aubrey began to come to terms with her situation. An enjoyable read and very sad story. A Series of Unfortunate Events
I am writing a bit about these Series' books. I have read 1-10 (but not book 3). I found them a nice, quick read and I enjoyed (to an extent) reading them. However, I didn't finish the series because in the end I found them a bit depressing (which for those books is good!) I'm happy to hear that Lauren is ploughing through the orphans final Tesstament!! Has anybody read either 'Blood Ties' by Sophie McKenzie or 'Solace of the Road' by Siobhan Dowd? I am meaning to read them but I keep getting distracted by other books! The vanashing of Katharina Linden
Hi everyone. Sorry I couldn't make it to the last meeting. Stuck in New York! I've been reeding to pass the time. The Vanashing of Katharina Linden is a great book. It's set in Germany. There's great tention and a great story. I'm not too far through butthe story so far great.

My Turn ! !
Now it's my turn to agree 100% with what you said, Phoebe. J'adore 'Love, Aubrey' and really wanted it to be on the ShortList. To be honest, I don't understand why it isn't. Like you said Phoebe, I'll have a look at the links Mrs Baker put on here, and if I still don't get it, I'll ask Mrs Baker tomorrow. With me, I don't look at the criteria of a book to see how good it is, I read it and pay attention to how it is written, how much I love it and whether or not I can put it down. 'Love, Aubrey' is so realistic, so moving that you will get tears in your eyes when to get to some parts of it. Fortunately, I had a hanky handy when I read it - you might not be so lucky! Corinne, I 100% agree with you about the Medusa books. They are absolutely amazing! Anybody who hasn't read them is really missing out! And Amelia, I read what you said about 'Love, Aubrey'. I still can't believe you haven't read it after we all said it was so good! You really should read it. Although it is sad, it does provide pleasure because you get to know Aubrey and it is a really great read. And I truly believe it should have been on the shortlist because the characters are fantastic and very realistic and I know that it is Suzanne LaFleur's first book but I look forward to another from her! What happened to Love, Aubrey?
Thank you Mrs Baker for the links. I read through them and I saw that the judges all had experience as children's librarians. Most of them had also been on the panel before and helped choose other winners too. I had a look at the criteria page too and I found this piece of information- "The book that wins the Carnegie Medal should be a book of outstanding literary quality. The whole work should provide pleasure, not merely from the surface enjoyment of a good read, but also the deeper subconscious satisfaction of having gone through a vicarious, but at the time of reading, a real experience that is retained afterwards." Was Love, Aubrey really good literal quality? Did a book, so hard hitting, provide pleasure? I don't know because I haven't read it, but it's worth a thought! From Amelia :-)

'Chains'
I am going to read 'Chains' and I am hoping that it will not be as dissapointing as another book that I have read ('Burn My Heart' by Beverly Naidoo). It was about Africa and didn't make any sense because of all the Kenyan words included. The plot and the characters weren't very good either but considering that this book has come so far already I think (hopefully!) I'll be in for a good read! Amelia :)

A Series of Unfortunate Events
I am mid way through reading the last book in The Series of Unfortunate Events and i'm really enjoying it. The book is about three orphans called Violet, Klaus and sunny Baudelaire and all the Unfortunate Events that have happened to them since their parents had died. I feel that Lemony Snicket (the author) has really made me feel that I'm there because when i'm reading them i can picture what's going on in my head. There are 13 books and i have read 12 1/2 of them and I'm really looking forward to reading the next half. I strongly recommend htis series to and one who's interested in adventure and excitment. I am around half way through this book and I am loving it :)! Its an amazing book and I love the characters, I read this book for over an hour at one point and it felt like five minutes! I think there is more to most of the books that meets the eye so fingers crossed that there are some good books to get our teeth into!! The Graveyard Book
Being the nosy person that I am I went and had a look at some other reading groups sites. Most of the sites haven't got under way yet but I came across a site that actually had a book review for the Graveyard Book on it. I, being an extremely nosy person read through it and actually liked the whole idea of it! I think that the title is a bit off putting and I am going to give it another go. If anyone is interested the school is: HOWDEN SCHOOL AND TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE, and once you have got that up click on reviews. There was also another group, CHEAM HIGH SCHOOL and ABERDARE GIRLS SCHOOL, you might want to go on their websites too, they have got their blog running. A Bit More Info Re Amelia's Recommendations
Here is a bit more infomation on the books that Amelia just recommended. The Medusa Project Series by Sophie McKenzie are truly fantastic. They are about 4 teenagers who had the 'Medusa Gene' injected into them when they were babies so now they have special abilities: mindreading, telekenisis, visions of the future and protecting themself against harm. It is all about the problems they face due to their abilities. The first one in the series is 'The Meduasa Project: The Set-Up' followed by 1 other and a mini one for World Book Day but apparently there are more coming out soon! I look forward to that! Anyway they really are FANTASTIC books and I highly recommend them. 'The London Eye Mystery' by Siobhan Dowd is another really good book. It is about a boy who gets on the London Eye but never gets off. It is a mystery story as to what happened to him but it is not at all scary. Overall another fantastic book which I would again recommend. Phoebe :)

Ways to live Forever, By Sally Nicholls
I had to read this book for accelerated reading, and on picking it up the first sentances I read was- "I am Sam. I have Leukemia and by the time you will have read this I will have died". This is, in a way quite a disturbing set of words but IT HOOKED ME INTO THIS BOOK!!! I loved it because it was emotional and touching and a BRILL read!! So I can reccomend this book to any of you guys!! I know Corinne has already read it! See everyone at the next meeting!!!!! From Amelia :-)

Life on the Refrigerator Door
This book was recommended to me so I thought I'd give it a try. It is written in note form (as in sending notes back and forth between 2 people). When I first picked it up and began to read it I thought it was a bit boring and too 'real life' to make it a good book. What I mean by too 'real life' is that some pages are just a shopping list for example and that is not very interesting for the reader. Saying that, when I got a bit further, I found it quite addictive and I really wanted to read on. It is very sad near the end but overall quite a good book and very different from others I have read. I would have liked it if there was a bit more of a plot and it wasn't quite so brief as to what was happening. Phoebe :)

2010 Shortlist
We have seen the shortlist and are very dissapointed to see that 'Love, Aubrey' and several others we liked are not on it!! We also feel that all the books on the shortlist are mainly for boys and that none of us really want to read them. There is not much of a variety either. Titles we want to be on the short list We want 'Love, Aubrey' to be on the short list... because we have really enjoyed reading this book and hope others will too. 'Love, Aubrey' seemed really realistic and believable, it was an emotional and appealing book and the characters were convincing and we felt that we got to know them throughout the course of the book.
