Farrag - Last Messge
Hi Book Group, I'm really sorry we've not been able to meet regularly and complete Carnegie like last year. For those of you that read any, well done! I hope our lack of a group hasn't put you off reading. You've all made a brilliant contribution to the Book Group and I hope it continues next year. Sabrina expressed an interest in running it next year. There's no reason why it can't be student led. I suggest you decide which day/time you want, talk to the librarian, the new head of English, make some posters and you're off. You can still use this site to blog on and I will send the Twitter details to Miss Bensley, who will hopefully pass it on to the librarian. Best wishes for the future. Keep on reading!

When we actually have book group next? As it hasn't been on the past 2 Tuesdays and I'm not sure. As for Carnegie books I'm patiently waiting for one I haven't already read to be in the box. :)

Hey people. Its been a long while- but both me and Cerys have started on our books anyway. Cerys started with Ghost Hawk but couldnt even go through at least 20 pages-so she gave it back. But we've both read Roof toppers and Blood Family which we both found amazing! I'm now reading Ghost Hawk (hope i finish it soon, me and cerys started carnegie really late) and hope to finish it. Me and Cerys will be coming to book group next week.

Hi guys, So far I've read Liar & spy, blood family (both good but fairly forgettable) and the bunker diary (which is AMAZING!!). I'm currently struggling through ghost hawk- I've only got about 50 pages to go so I hope to finish that tonight. Hope everyone has had a good holiday and got lots of chocolate. See you all soon :) x

my secret santa book
for secret Santa I was given 'little women' by miss Blundell. I didn't really enjoy this book and I found It quite hard to understand the old English. sadly i quit half way through the book. some of the story where quite exiting and pulled me in more, but it disappeared quickly and I got bored. I would recommend this book to people who like old fashion books. I hope they will enjoy this book more than me. -Jessica.f-

My secret Santa book was called Jacob's ladder. I found it very exciting as the idea was completely original and something that I hadn't encountered before. I would definitely recommend this book as the writing is very accessible and can be easily understood by everyone, plus it is a very quick read. Really enjoyed this book :)

For my secret Santa book I got 'Underworld' by Cathy McPhail. I found it really boring. Parts of it were hard to understand. I gave up on the last few pages because I got fed up of not understanding it fully.

Hello, I finished my secret Santa book and it was quite good, even though I'm not a fan of romantic/vampire books. I hope you all enjoyed your secret Santa books as well as I did; gl & hf

Hello everyone. Me and Cerys wont come to book group for a short while as it is getting dark earlier and we both live far away. But we will DEFINITELY return once Carnegie has started because its a very exiting event and it wont be as dark during those times. Until then, see you! xsxxx

Angela
I haven't blogged in ages woops, anyways, Cerys, which way do you walk?
Posted on: 01 Dec 2013

Farrag
Hi Cerys - That's sad :( Is there no one in the book group who will walk your way? Would be a shame to lose you. Hope everyone is ready to share the books they have been reading tomorrow. I feel like it's ages since we sat and talked about books we've read. Hopefully we've got 2 new members about to join thanks to Tamzyn! Two year 7s (a boy and a girl) which hopefully will help to secure the future of the group... :)
Posted on: 25 Nov 2013

cerys
Sadly i won't be able to come to book group for a while, as it's getting darker earlier and my mum doesn't like me walking home in the dark. I will be allowed when it is getting lighter again, so probably next year, but i will keep on blogging.

Hello everyone! July only lasted like 3 mins and so did August. In just a week we'll be starting school again.... Anyway, I've managed to read two books this summer which are called 'Sweet Temptation' and 'A Winter Bride' , right now I have just only started to read 'One Day', anyway I'll see you all soon! xx
Posted on: 25 Aug 2013

Farrag
Hi Ange, Pheobe and Sila (and anyone else who reads this). Hope you are all having a good summer! I've been a bit rubbish with reading. I've got stuck on a book, and therefore haven't really read a huge amount. I have 3 I definitely want to read in the next fortnight so will take a couple to Bournemouth with me tomorrow #readingonthebeach. Thanks for sharing all the books you are reading. I look forward to hearing more about them when the Book Group resumes. Phoebe, you are one step ahead of me with A View From the Bridge. It's a new one for me, so will be interesting for our class to study it together. Good luck with Lord of the Flies, very deep, political, explores human nature, society etc. Should be a good one achieving the top grades as it's very meaty. Enjoy the last 2 and a bit weeks everyone. Keep on reading!
Posted on: 18 Aug 2013

Phoebe
Hi all!! How's the summer reading going? I'm not doing very well at all in terms of reading- but so far this summer I have managed to read 'And this is true' by Emily Mackie, 'Six years' by Harlan Coben (thanks for lending it to me Miss Farrag, I really enjoyed it) and also 'A view from the bridge' by Arthur Miller (a play that I am studying next year for English. I am currently reading a book called 'By light alone', which is sort of a dystopia-mystery thing. I've also got a book called 'Theodore Boone' and 'Rupture' that I'm quite excited about. Then I'm going to attempt 'Lord of the flies' by William Goulding, which I hope is going to be good. Happy reading guys :)
Posted on: 18 Aug 2013

Sila
Wow! Its been AGEEES since I've last blogged! Whats everyone been doing during the 'summer' holidays? I know i've not been doing much! Actually, I went to the Bretton Library to borrow some books as I was litteraly in the point of dying from boredom. Well what can I say I took out 6 books and I am half way through the first one. Also, the Library have ordered ' A walk to remember ' for me too, which I'm really looking forward to read sooner or later! The movie was great so I guess the book will be just the same! As long as theres a GOOD weather, then I'll be in a GOOD mood! Which will never happen as I dont think there WILL be any good weather... Anyway, hope to see you all soon!

Awwww Miss Farrag!! I hope you feel better soon xxxx I also think that a party sounds like a great idea! It will be a good way to end the year of book-grouping. (PS- I am getting on really badly with my book, only on page 60 and I haven't read it in about a week. I may have to begin reading something else).
Posted on: 09 Jul 2013

Oh no! I've just seen your post Kimmy and now feel super guilty for missing Book Group. I hope they didn't go to waste. I emailed you all this morning, not sure who read it in time? Can't make next week (16th) so shall we have a party on 23rd? Bring some crisps, sweets etc. I may offer to bake if Kimmy doesn't mind? We can make book marks then...

PS, I think the Greenaway Medal went to a very good book - my runner up book I should say!!
Posted on: 19 Jun 2013

Sila :(
So, I go on facebook and see Angela online. I ask her, ' which book won the Carnegie ' - as I missed the announcement today, I wait for an answer that will give me a wide grin. But no. MAGGOT MOON WON THE CARNEGIE MEDAL! WHAT. WHYYYY. JUST. why???? However, I really really enjoyed Carnegie day, I was quite shy at first but then I started to know them better and they were all very kind, well, at least most of them. I really liked my group as all of them were very kind and talkative. We had amazing discussions together and I think I was really lucky to be in that group! :) :) Same Ceryss, I've also got loads of homework so I guess its going to be a busy week for me :/ :/ :/ :/
Posted on: 19 Jun 2013

Phoebe
Hi all! Had a really good day today- carnegie day was AMAZEBALLS. Plus all of my exams are over ( at least until October). Thank you all for a great day, especially thank you to Miss Farrag for getting a reading group going in the school and organising the day, I think all of the schools that came really enjoyed it. Bit disappointed with the winner, but I think Maggot Moon is a really good book and it still deserved to win. I want my hat back should have won the Greenaway prize though :(
Posted on: 19 Jun 2013

Very Proud Book Group Leader
You were all fantastic hosts today! You were all incredibly helpful and mature and made the other two schools feel very welcome. I'm very proud to have you all in the Book Group, so thank you for your participation today. Here's an outline of the winning books from the judges: http://www.cilip.org.uk/news-media/Pages/news130619.aspx See you all next week - You need to bring a book you have been dying to read!

Posted on: 19 Jun 2013

Cerys
Very unhappy that Maggot moon won, but at least it wasn't In darkness, after 12 pages I was asleep! It took me ages to read it, because the back didn't sound interesting. Atleast I enjoyed most of the carnegie books.
Posted on: 19 Jun 2013

I have finished A Greyhound Of a Girl, and I have now started to read In Darkness. I will probably not finish Carnegie but oh well, at least I have read 6 and on my 7th one. :) :)
Posted on: 11 Jun 2013

Farrag to Khaled
Aw Khaled! Sounds like you have a busy time at the moment; welcome to GCSEs! It's important you plan your revision time wisely, and focus on your upcoming exams. Carnegie should be an enjoyable hobby, not work, so don't feel like you have to plough on with books you are not enjoying or you don;t have time for. Read your Carnegie book when you have a little bit of free time, maybe just before you go to sleep. Try not to worry! See you next Tuesday.
Posted on: 11 Jun 2013

Yay! Kim is now Twitter famous!!!!Those cakes were lush. GIven up on In Darkness.... it is boring and makes me want to shoot myself. Not sure if I'll return to it, and I still have Code Name Verity to go. Weird that the books I thought I would enjoy the most are the books I am struggling to read. Anyway, I've given myself a bit of a break and have started on "One Day" which I have wanted to read for ages.
Posted on: 06 Jun 2013

I finished Midwinterblood yesterday, and started The Weight Of Water yesterday and managed to read it in like 2 hours. Yipee! I have read 5 books so far and I am going to read A greyhound of a girl next. I picked out two books to read for the halfterm and so far I have managed to finish one. I really enjoyed Midwinterblood, it was a truly unique novel, one which I couldn't put down. I enjoyed The Weight of Water as well, I thought the plot was very interesting and the way the book was written was also very unique and catchy. It was a quick read, but I really wanted to know what happened after the book had finished, so I wish there will be a part two of The Wight Of Water! Have an excellent half term, lets just hope the weathers fine!
Posted on: 26 May 2013

Farrag to Sila and Pheebs
Enjoy your two books Pheebs. I've got Verity too, although haven't started it yet. Well done for pushing through In Darkness; I found it tricky. Sila, yes you are right! I'm pleased you have enjoyed it. I've got two to go, but it's a stand out winner for me. Happy half term reading everyone!
Posted on: 24 May 2013

Phoebe
Hi everyone! I have In Darkness and Code Name Verity to read over half term (Midwinterblood wasn't in the Carnegie pile so I may have a hunt for it at Werrington Library, see if I can find it there. I am actually getting into In Darkness now, although I still don't like all of the violence and bad language in the book, as I feel it adds nothing to the story. Anyways, have a great half term everyone, and happy reading! xx
Posted on: 24 May 2013

Sila to Miss Farrag
I think I can guess which book you are talking about; Midwinterblood? I am on the last chapter of this book and by now I can say its my favourite Carnegie book! I think it might be the winner but I need to read 4 more books after this so I may change my mind. I'm going to pick out 3 or more books to read in the halfterm so that I can finish Carnegie and hopefully, I will! Have an excellent half term everyone :)))) x

Farrag - TDA Confirmed
Hi All, Just to let you know TDA are coming to our Carnegie day. 27 year 8s... It's going to be great! Any ideas for activities for Carnegie or Greenaway, please blog before 30th May.

Farrag - Half Term Reading
Hi Everyone, Just to repeat what was said at Book Group today for Kathy, Kim and Cerys... If you want to take more than one book over half term you can. Less than one month to go. The aim is to read all 8, but if you don't manage it, don't worry! (I think this is the first year I might do it!) In our first book group after half term we'll be talking about ALL the books, so if you haven't read some they might be ruined for you. Make sure you take home over half term the ones you really want to read! Keep blogging, and keep reading....

Am currently reading In Darkness, and despite all of you saying you hate it (and the plot spoiler- I still haven't completely forgiven you Miss Farrag :) ) I am really enjoying it! I love the writing style and find the plot really engaging.

Sila
Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a great weekend and taking their spare time to read as much of their Carnegie book as they can. I am reading MidwinterBlood and so far I am enjoying it. Better finish it quick! Have a great weekend and see you soon! :) :)

Haha it's okay :) (but do it agan and I may be forced to kill you haha) I have just finished greyhound of a girl, which I thought was good, but not amazing, and have literally just started in darkness. So far, I am actually enjoying it, I find the writer has a very easy to read writing style.

Farrag - Confession and Apology
So I have come online to confess, and apologise. But it appears I have been beaten to it! I have broken the one and only rule of the book group by spoiling the plot of In Darkness to Pheebs during our English lesson. My only excuse is that I thought she had read it. OPS!!!!!!!!!!! Soz Pheebs :)
Posted on: 15 May 2013

Phoebe
LOL only joking :)
Posted on: 15 May 2013

Phoebe launching an official complaint.
I would like to launch an official complaint about the leader of our book group.... yes, you know who you are. She has managed somehow to break the one and only rule of our book group, do NOT tell each other the plots of books they are yet to read. Miss Farrag, I am not impressed.
Posted on: 15 May 2013

Phoebe
A distinguished member who breaks the ONE book group rule *cough cough* Angela *cough cough*...... Only joking :) Anyways.... I have nearly finished greyhound of a girl, only about 65 pages left to go. Hopefully I'll have finished that within the week, and then I can move on to the other three I have left to read, 'In Darkness', 'Code Name Verity' and 'Midwinterblood'. Trust me to leave the longest three till last! Oh, and well done Kim for finishing all of the books ( you just need to impart some words of wisdom via reviews now *hint hint *). Hopy you all have a good week :)

Farrag - LOVING the Book Group
Hi Everyone, keep blogging, these posts are great! Well done Sila for finishing it, and thinking more about it. That's what Carnegie should do - make you go away and think. Glad you enjoyed Greenaway Pheebs, it's always nice to read a different type of book. Well done Khaled, keep going! (You have 7 more to go not 6!) KATHY & KIM - where are you? You need to write some reviews, so we can make our magazine. See you all tomorrow!
Posted on: 13 May 2013

khaled 1 down 7 to go :D
finaly..........finished boy and a bear in a boat. i can finally rest my jaw from reading 24 hours. how about you guys. ( wondering what sticker to choose for my first book )
Posted on: 13 May 2013

Sila
I finished Maggot Moon yesterday, I somehow tried to understand what the plot was actually about and managed to find the book more interesting than I thought. The first pages were confusing, but then it got interesting. But after that it got confusing again and then I understood that you had to use your own imagination to picture the books scenery. I think that's what got me confused, - as well as ' Greenflies ' and ' Motherland ' and ' The Land of Croca Colas' which was mentioned in the book quite a lot, (not to mention the disgusting pictures too). Finished my 3rd book and I need to whiz past 5 more! We've only got a month and a week! eeek.
Posted on: 12 May 2013

Phoebe :)
I LOVED our Kate Greenaway session. Reading picture books; I felt like a little girl again. And my personal favourite has to be "I want my hat back", it really brightened up my day it made me laugh so much. I have given up on Code Name Verity (slap my wrist) and picked up "A greyhound of a girl", which I am halfway through. It is quite good so far, and I enjoy reading about the Irish culture, although currently I am a little bit confused as to what is going on. PS: I love your poem Miss Farrag! It's very cool :)
Posted on: 12 May 2013

Farrag to Sila
Thanks! I wrote it for the newsletter, so watch out for it. We'll make sure we discuss Maggot Moon next week then. So if people haven't read it, get reading!

Sila
Wow that's a nice poem! :D
Posted on: 08 May 2013

Sila To Miss Farrag
I have enjoyed Wonder, and A boy and a bear in a boat was okay, but I really don't understand what Maggot Moon is about... I understood it quite well but soon after the middle of the story I didn't quite know what was going on?! If that makes sense... :)

Farrag The Poet (Although it won't let me do lines!)
The Voyager Book Group One day Miss Farrag decided it was time, To start a Book Group - an idea which was fine. “Where shall I find them?” she asked around, A group of book lovers, that’s what she found. We blog, we review, We scoff and we chew, We read, we explore, Eating jaffa cakes galore! Every Tuesday we meet, to share a good read, Consuming new novels, to satisfy our need. Along came Carnegie, the best books of all, But which is the winner? That’s a tough one to call. We blog, we review, We scoff and we chew, We read, we explore, Eating jaffa cakes galore! We sit and we talk and the time, it just flies, Soon it’s 4pm and we’re saying our goodbyes. But during the week we use our website, And obviously read books well into the night. We blog, we review, We scoff and we chew, We read, we explore, Eating jaffa cakes galore! The challenge of Carnegie is keeping us going, The discussion and debate we know will keep flowing. We’re a great little group, growing as weeks go by, Want to join us? Well, just come and say hi.

Finding Code Name Verity really hard going.... haven't even got past Chapter 3 yet. May have to start it again. It's just really boring me at the moment, but I want to get a bit further, because it may just be the start that isn't enjoyable.

a boy and a bear in a boat. i though this book was going to be fascinating, which i was right. anyway the book really inspired me a lot and i love the book. nearly finished it like 40 pages left ( go me) rate for this book 10/10

:0 kimmy! You blogged without Kath! She will be upset.... as will Miss Kirby, Cerys, if you don't do your English homework! Wait till you get into GCSE years, you'll really be pushed for time then :) Oh, and I'm pleased to see my recommendation of "The fault in our stars," didn't go amiss.... an amazing book, really. I have so far read two chapters of "Code name Verity,"; unimpressive, I know, but I am currently summoning what little willpower I have left (and have been doing so for about a week). I'll get there eventually! I will have to speed up, though, if I want to finish Carnegie! Hope everyone is well.

The following week we are going to look at the Kate Greenaway books - more info on the main Carnegie home page. See you all tomorrow.

Welcome to Jarvis, our new Book Group mascot. Does he like reading? Kathy I hope your English homework is complete! I managed one Carnegie book over the holiday, so 6 more to go. I'm planning to red "The fault in our stars" next, which I'm very exited about, and then I'll be back to Carnegie, with "Code name Verity,", which I'm not so exited about. It is nice to have prolonged reading sessions, accompanied with chocolate ( of course).

Hey, hows everyone progressing in their books? Kathy is not doing too great on 'The Darkness' because of all her Easter homework *Farrag* and Kim is halfway through her second book (Code name verity) :) Kim is sad because she didn't come to the last meeting but Kathy told her not to worry because Phoebe forgot to attach the work :D hehe, and were here casually talking in 3rd person as you do. I have "Out of shadows," (a previous Carnegie winner) which I need to finish, plus "Along for the ride", "1984" and "Code name verity" lined up to read over the Easter break. ...i'm going to be busy reading (not that I'm complaining).
