Roof Toppers
I really recommend that you read Roof Toppers. It is a really heartwarming book about a girl called Sophie who everyone tells she was orphaned in a shipwreck, floating in a cello case. Despite what everyone tells her, she still believes her mother survived the shipwreck and won't listen to anyone who tells her otherwise. Charles (the scholar who rescued her from the ocean) grows very fond of her and keeps her, treating Sophie like his own daughter. However, after an inspection in their house, the pair have to run if they want to stay together. Just then, the ancient cello case gives up its secret... P.S.G.

Confused with Ghost Hawk
Does anyone think there are to many characters in Ghost Hawk with too little description? I was looking through the reviews and one person brought this up. It gets confusing as new characters are introduced with hardly any detail. Especially on John's side, this is one of the few parts of the book I don't like. What do you think? ZARA I think that, even though sometimes there is very little description (I agree), when John spends a little more time with the character we feel like we are geting to know them. After reading the book several times, I feel like I know most of the characters quite well. P.S.G.

Does anyone notice some really small bits of this book which make it somewhat mysterious and strange? Like there is another world with similar people, but still unmade? The rather abstract drawings? How the process of creation is shown in their minds? And that after making the wolf, Harry and Sue look... slightly wolfish? And among all this, there is a lesson to be learned in a heartwarming way. A good read, especially if you like graphic novels (it is one!). ZARA

This is hilarious! Small Fish steals a hat from a bigger fish. He won't notice it's gone... probably. He won't know it was Small Fish who took it... probably. And even if he does, he won't know where Small Fish is going... probably. This is a very funny and well illustrated book with well timed lapses of judgement made by Small Fish. If you like comedy... just read it! ZARA

The red necklace
I've got the red necklace - I borrowed it from the libary. It's doesn't quite look like my favourite kind of book: see the murder genre that this is set in. I'm not sure whether I should read it or not, I read the first 20 pages of it and I am not that much into it. Anyone think I should keep on going with it as it's a good book? ZARA

Have you read Oliver? It is very sweet, as it's about a boy who if different and has to try and find a place in the world as he is all alone. A bit sterotypical, but it promotes rights and has a good quality to it. I know it may not look like your first choice but it really is quite good! The art is really nice too: even the people eyes give you a hint into Oliver's world. A good read, and I think you should read it. ZARA

I have read Ghost Hawk and it is so good! John's point of view can be a bit dull but is is actually really quite deep and has many hidden things that you never really though about before. I love the fact it is about equality and that the world is unfair as both the people who stood for it are killed. Please, PLEASE read this! You will be so enriched! ZARA

Hay book festival
Hey guys, I have just returned from the Hay book festival in Wales! The place where I stayed was called Hay-on-wye, also known as 'Town of Books'! Some of the bookshops there are like gigantic libraries with millions of books to choose from. I bought a book which won the Carnegie medal some years back. It is called 'The Family from One End Street'! I also think I have discovered my new favourite author, Sophie McKenzie (I'm not sure whether I spelt her surname right) and her thrillers are AMAZING!!! You HAVE to read them!! Emily P:) Emily, that is so so so so so amazing! I love books so much - I can't believe there is actually a town named after them! Didn't Sophie McKenzie write the Girl, Missing series. Sorry haven't read them...yet. Only a matter of time now. ZARA

A boy and a bear in a boat
A boy and a bear in a boat is an OK book so far, I wouldn't say it would make my top 100 favourite books though. I do read a lot of books, but some of them are so boring, I just kind of leave them and start reading something else and then I kind of forget that I was reading the boring book and then I find the boring book like a month later and I look at it and think " this should be interesting" and I start reading it find it a bit boring, but I continue and then suddenly later on in the book it is really excited and I'm really glad I carried on reading it because then the book makes it into my top 100 favourite books. Wow that was a long sentence. Emily P :)

Guys, why can't we talk sensible? You know other people will see this and we want to establish ourselves as a proper, mature reading group, right? We need to discuss questions like: What do you think would happen in the next book? If it was boring, why? Who was your favourite character, and why? Come on, we can do this! Who was that?

What to write in a blog or review
Try to explain why you like or dislike something. E.G. why is it boring? Perhaps you could say what you would like to see in the story. Mrs D.
