Saltash Shadowers

The Most Successful Meeting Yet!
Today, we had a super meeting! Every member of the group attended, added their reviews to the website and had some fabulous discussions! It was lovely to hear the students debating the ending of More Than This; arguing over whether The Fastest Boy in the World was too dull or not; promoting Cuckoo Song for its strangeness and praising the illustrations in Tinder. What a wonderful experience to hear such mature and thoughtful conversations. And we ate cake of course (thanks to Miss Allen)!

Results Day @ Eggbuckland College
We are thrilled to be invited to Eggbuckland College to give a presentation on our allocated book, Cuckoo Song, and to meet with other schools to hear their opinions on the various books. We will be starting our presentation preparation shortly and gearing up for finding out the winning book at Eggbuckland, as they kindly stream the results for us. We are looking forward to an exciting day for our book-lovers!

Some surprising twists...
Well, reading is well under-way now and we are starting to get some fantastic reviews posted on our website! We've found lots of unusual twists in the books that we have been reading and we have also been pushed outside of our typical genre of book, and discovered some interesting new books. Our video on 'why I love reading' is also being uploaded so there is lots to see and do on our website. Keep coming back to read more reviews and recommendations!

When Mr Dog Bites... Controversial!
After reading this book myself, due to finding mixed reviews on it, we have decided that this book can not be read by the younger years in our shadowing group. Although it gives an incredibly interesting and heart-warming insight into the mind of a boy with Tourettes, the use of language in it is just not appropriate for some of our younger readers. Whilst we try to be open-minded about the literature that we encourage our students to read, we feel that this book is better suited to maturer readers. In future years perhaps...

The first meeting was a success!
Today, we all met together for the first time in the school library. Every member of the group now has their own logon to post their book reviews and we've learnt a bit more about each other - read some interesting facts about our group on our home page. We've also filmed why we love reading so much - look out for this film coming soon! A successful first meeting - especially as we also ate chocolate brownies!

Let's get ready to read!
The students are ready; the books have been ordered. We are getting ready to commence reading! Tomorrow, we are going to discuss why we love reading - hopefully, we will upload this into a video for you to watch. After this, the reading begins... Watch out for book reviews coming soon!
