Radioactive Readers Revel in Writing Rave Reviews
Welcome to the Lode Heath Book Shadowing Blog! We are now waiting with bated breath for the announcement of the winner of the Carnegie Book Awards! We are all enjoying reading the books, although we are sometimes challenged by their content. Some of the books have very dark and disturbing themes, often beyond our level of comprehension. Our Book Shadowing Group are composed of Yr 7 readers who have never delved into such abstract books before. However, we have relished the experience of getting out of our comfort zones and reading novels that have challenged us and encouraged us to see the world from a different perspective. In our weekly meetings, we read each other an extract of our book and discuss whether the author is trying to create suspense, flesh out the characters of the novel or highlight numerous themes . There are also sections of books that we find tedious or confusing to understand. We often go away with different interpretations of what these sections of the novel could mean. Watching video clips of the authors talking about their books has also been very enlightening. We've find out that novelists often write about their own experiences or write a fictionalised account of a subject that has fascinated them all of their lives. All types of genres have been presented to us and we have been able to dip into different flavours and assortments!
