Don Valley Pageturners

The trip to Armthorpe Academy.....
Today me and the rest of Don Valley's Carnegie group travelled to Armthorpe academy and we loved it. As soon as we arrived there we had something to eat. Then we did some activities. First we had to get in a group and get some newspapers then cut out the most relevant words or pictures to match our favourite book. It was amazing. The we played book bingo. This is when my luck stopped as I never win at anything. So we had to write numbers 1-50 in our grid. So we started and I won. Then I won again. WOW. My head felt so big that it couldn't fit through the door. I would love to do an activity like this again. Thank you Mr McCall. By Piper G

Our amazing trip for the Carnegie awards at armthorpe
I really enjoyed the trip to Armthorpe academy. It was amazing, we did two activities that were really really fun. The first activity was were we had to work in different groups but within our academy. We had to create a poster about a specific type of book ( my groups was cuckoo song ) we had to make the poster out of things off newspaper articles. We enjoyed doing this because we could use are skills to describe the character but not just that, use are imaginative side and describe the book in detail. The activity we did after that was book bingo and Don Valley were the ones who won the most. The winners won a book of their choice and a chocolate bar. We also had a vote what book we liked and the Buffalo Soldier won. I hope we can do something like this again. Lucy

What I Enjoyed
Today I enjoyed going to Armthorpe Academy because as well as getting me out of my school, it also allowed me to have fun there. The best part of the day was when we got to make our piece of paper and changed it into our favourite book that we had read. I have to say Thank you for letting me join you all in the Carnegie group. Kelsey.

Trip to Armthorpe
Today I really enjoyed going to Armthorpe Academy because it was fun. I loved the cutting and sticking activity because we could use our imagination and write our ideas down as a group. For that activity we chose Cuckoo Song as the book we were going to write about. I didn't enjoy the bingo much because there was to many numbers and the same people won every time, but it was really good all the same and the also brought in the Carnegie to that activity so we could find out about the past few Carnegie winners. It was really fun I would love to go there again. Bethany W.

Shortlist excitement!
We are really excited about the new shortlist! The Patrick Ness book has been on this year's Doncaster Book Award list and it is brilliant. Too early to say what our favourite will be as we like several of these authors.
