Last week the Carnegie Critics group reviewed and talked about the captivating novels The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Rook by Anthony McGowan. The books brought up some very deep discussions about racism and bullying. Rook had one of the best analogies a book has ever had. We even got an amazing tweet back from Anthony McGowan, he is so humble and down to earth. We loved that Starr (a black female) was the heroine of a story. It completely went against hero stereotypes in books. As a group we had a massive discussion on sexism and racism and how they should not exist, let alone be tolerated. These stories were both amazing and both have a huge chance of winning. The whole group wishes both books good luck.
