Newport Free Grammar School
Saffron Walden,

Our first week...
On Tuesday 29th May we had our first meeting of the Carnegie group. Mrs Tomlin started things off by explaining what the Carnegie award is all about, and then we had a look at all of the shortlisted books. We talked a bit about what makes a good book: we decided we liked books that made you want to keep reading, are exciting, and where lots of things happen. We then did a 'Judge the Book by its Cover' vote, where we took a poll to see which books appealed to us the most, before we'd started reading them. Two people thought that 'Between Shades of Gray' seemed like the book they most liked the look of. Everyone else chose a different book - so there isn't a clear favourite. Then everyone did a lucky dip to see which book they'd read first... we've officially started!
