23rd May 2017 Blackout poetry
Black-out poetry With just under 4 weeks to go till we hear the announcement of the winner of the Carnegie Award 2017, the Beaconegies are racing to read as many of the eight books as we can!! This week we tried our hands at blackout poetry. Pages were photocopied out of the shortlisted books and words were circled to make up our poems. With the rest of the page, a design or a picture was made to give it effect. The student with the best poem will be announced after the half term. Congratulations to Megan who won last week’s competition of the best chatterbox design.

16th May 2017 Chatterboxes!
In our Beaconegies meeting today, we had a break-time of fun making our very own chatterboxes. With the names of each of the shortlisted titles hidden behind the flaps we decorated and designed the rest of the chatterbox. We then had fun trying them out on each other. The winner will be revealed next week. To try making your own follow the instructions on this copyright chatterbox: Congratulations to Charlotte who won last week’s competition for the best cover redesign with her clever interpretation of The Smell of Others People’s Houses.

The Best Opening Line is................
The Beaconegies had a lovely meeting with custard creams and oreos!! We read through every books opening line and the majority of the group decided that the line... 'sometimes, at night, the dirt outside turns into a beautiful ocean' in The Bone Sparrow was the most imaginative. This was closely followed by 'guilt is a hunter' in Salt to the Sea.
