New Reading Group!
We are a group of Year 7 & Year 8 students! We are enjoying reading the new Carnegie selection. We have noticed that one of the themes seems to be changing/adapting to a new life. We also enjoy all of the activities that Carnegie have politely provided.

Final Meeting of the Year
What an interesting old shortlist this has been! There's been swearing, arguments, death, England, America, apples, raining, buffaloes, soldiers, dogs, fast kids, grandpas dying, bus-beating-races and so much more! We've argued over the ethics of When Mr Dog Bites, discussed the reality of the characters in The Fastest Boy in the World and spoke about why the tree on the front cover of The Middle of Nowhere was important. There's been lots of disagreements, lots of laughter and, of course, lots and lots of sweets! And so, we wait for the winner to be announced. We hope it'll be a good one, one that we've all enjoyed. And, we also hope that our newbies - Sophie and Amy - will join again next year. We don't have to hope that the veteran, the miserable, sarcastic blob of morbid outlooks on the world - Elle - will join next year. She has nothing to do with her spare time, so we humour her. Fingers crossed we'll have new people joining next year too. Or just more than five people in the group. Good luck to all the authors that participated, we wish you the very best of luck. Here's to another year, another shortlist, another stretch of sessions once a week, and more sweets!

New year, new challenges!
Maybe we should blog more often! Having met regularly since March, we now find ourselves in May and no blogging yet carried out this year. So here goes: We have a small group this year, but are making up for it with enthusiasm. We are trying NOT to talk about the books yet in order not to spoil any plots for each other. The result is that we have talked about everything but Carnegie! Taking selfies to upload to our Shadowing page proved a huge laugh when we discovered the webcam toy - look out for updates. Next session we should all have finished Fastest Boy and so have chosen it as our first discussion. Watch this space! Mrs T

Week 4:
Starting to upload to the blog 4 weeks in may or may have not been a good idea. But it's finally time for us to discuss everything that we've done over the past few weeks. So on the first week we started by introducing all members of the group. We shared reading interests and the book we were currently reading. Every book from The Fault In Our Stars ( John Green) to the City Of Lost Souls ( Cassandra Clare). We also had a lovely presentation from Olivia on the Carnegie process, and were introduced to last year's books. On the second week, all of the books were finally published. We filled in a sheet which gave our predictions on the book covers and the blurb. On the third week, we looked at the criteria and ways in which we could evaluate the books we were reading. On the fourth week ( present day), we had a look at our 'Shadowing Site' website. We elected Olivia as our web representative, and as a group we used a 'book tree' to mention our favourite books and the books we least liked. Check back on the next session for more information.

Today we had a look at writing a review for the website. We looked at the different features of a review. We also had a look at a couple of different reviews other students had written and each of us were asked whether we thought they were a good or bad review. Afterwards we had a go at writing the first few lines of our own. Thanks to the top tips I think my review will be much better!

Introduction to ShadowingSite.
Today, as a group we met and were introduced to the CKG webpage and the Shadowing Site page. This was a brilliant opportunity for us to edit our site, develop it and make decisions as a group. This was one of the first steps in becoming a brilliant reading group. Can't wait for the next session!!!
