Salt to the Sea
After a brief discussion about ships being sunk, we discussed the characters, focusing on Alfred and Florian first. We observed how Alfred was an example of how Hitler's words and charisma corrupted German youths. We found this book to be a moving tribute to those who fled their homes from Hitler's persecution.

Tuesday 23rd May- First Blog Post- Discussion on subject matter of the shortlist
Today is the first meeting of the Book Club that we are blogging. Despite limited numbers (some of our members alternate between volleyball and Book Club), we have had a fulfilling discussion on the subject matter of the shortlist for the Carnegie Award. We noticed that all of the books seemed to have a central theme of people from different backgrounds coming together. No blog post next week, due to half term, and there might not be one for the week after, as we have exams. Next topic will be Salt to the Sea
