Controversy in the Library
At our last Carnegie Reading Group we investigated and discussed When Mr. Dog Bites. There was a lot to be said about this book, we had a really interesting discussion and found out a lot about the author and why he wrote the book. After watching the video of Brian Conaghan, the author, tlaking about why the book had so much swearing in we had a few responses: - He says that the swearing is included to show what having Tourette's is like and we could understand this as a reason to do it. - He said that he included the swearing because that is realistic in a book for kids at high school. But many members of our group felt that this negatively stereotyped young people. We are looking forward to reviewing another book in depth! The group definitely has alot to say which is making our group really interesting.
