I have been reading 'Black Rabbit Summer' and 'Creature of the Night' this week
both very interesting books.... but in no way suitable for Year 7s I think! Too dark, too graphic, etc. But I may be wrong - who decides these things? I see that the Carnegie guidelines for those books are 14 plus - but the same age guideline is given for 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' which did not seem to me too dark or unpleasant for Year 7s even though there is violence aplenty in it too.... I am also intrigued by the fact that nearly all the Carnegie shortlisted books are very 'boy' orientated - 'Bog Child' probably the least so. From Katie, group leader, 8th May
