Braunton Academy
Devon,

Cake and Carnegie
Our shadowing group is made up of some very keen readers, but to encourage them to remember the meetings each week, we have found that luring them in with cake is a great help. This week's cake: Chocolate cupcakes. Back to the books...what a strong list this year. I have now read 7 out of the 8 and for me three books really stand out. Our group took their first books home last week and I am waiting with great anticipation to see what they think. The only thing I am certain of is that they will all have different opinions, and strong ones at that. The group meets in our brand new library. At last we can watch the films on a proper screen as there is a projector in the library now. It's a fabulous environment for a reading group, and there are enough computers so that everyone in the group can be writing reviews at once.

Today's meeting
We got our first reviews on the site, and discussed the possibility of making a film about our shadowing group. Our group had a visitor this week as the Head came in with a visiting parent who was very interested in what was going on.

Today
Today we have had a meeting, it is our third one so far. Most of us have read at least one book from the shortlist and they have all had positive feedback. We have just discovered how to log on and we are all now looking at the site. Amber has found out how to make a poll, her question is 'Who is the best?' and she has voted for herself! *** ok so whoever put the top thing was great. but here is the nitty gritty of the subject :D so far we have had very exciting tuesday lunches. not at all to do with cake ;), each week or so, we have read some of the shortlisted books and discused with the group why it is good and what it's about.
