Challenge...Create...Inspire!
Challenge...Create...Inspire! Wow! This 2017 shortlist is very impressive and the competition is going to get even more tense! With foregoing winners such as Emily Gravett (who has won twice already),Jim Kay (who has won once previously) William Grill (who has won once) and Chris Riddell (who has also won twice before). All of these books have connections relevant to the world we live in today. All of these books have mystery treasures that you will puzzle on. All of these books are guaranteed to make you want to read them all! The Journey by Francesca Sanna is connected to the stories of millions of refugees fleeing the war zones and trauma they have to cope with and how we can help them. Tidy by Emily Gravett has a connection with the environmental issues that we face today and what not to do about them. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling (illustrated by Jim Kay) has a link to all the things we still don't know about our world and others perhaps like does magic really exist? There is a Tribe of Kids by Lane Smith has a relation to all the different species of animals that are out there as well as different species of humans! A Great Big Cuddle by Michael Rosen (illustrated by Chris Riddell) has a bond to the simpler things in life (and, indeed, in books!) that make younger children enjoy reading either in their heads or out loud! The Marvels by Brian Selznick has an attachment to the situations people had to go through in real life (shipwrecks and deaths) and what people had to do. The Wild Animals of the North by Dieter Braun has an analogy with how to help the incredible animals that we live alongside. And last, but most definitely not least comes The Wolves of Currumpaw by William Grill, a book about the mistakes and the misunderstandings we make. The contest is only at the start but it is already really hotting up! Who will win, or, more importantly, who do YOU think will win? Follow the blog to find out! By Lara
