Well we have come to the end of our 'Kate Greenaway' meetings. Unfortunately we have not been able to get all of this years shortlisted books, however we have looked at the ones we could get. We have had mixed receptions to the books as a group and as individuals. We took a vote yesterday to see how we would place the books, the results are on our barometer. In actual fact it was a tie between Goth Girl and Smelly Louie, so it was decided to pick a name out of the drum! One of our members was missing though so we may have to count his vote next Chatterbooks!

The sun is shining, its a beautiful day, will anyone come to Chatterbooks today? We are looking at 'Rules of Summer' today so quite appropriate! It will be interesting to see what everyone makes of this book which was written and illustrated by Shaun Tan.

So our members resisted the temptation of the sunny weather and came along to our first Kate Greenaway meeting of the year. Well done! We had a really good discussion about 'The Promise' - see review. It was also a chance to change the look of our page which is always a popular job.

Kate Greenaway 2015 - so it begins!
Well tomorrow is our first Kate Greenaway Medal meeting of the season. Our Chatterbooks group has not met for a month because of the school holiday, so I hope everyone remembers! The sun is shining as I write this, so it feels like summer is on its way. Still there are lots of books to look at before the winner is announced. 'The Promise' is the first book on our list. Who will we choose as our winner? It will be interesting to find out.

Well the winner has been announced and we have decided on which book we think should have received the medal! We voted and our choice was The Day the Crayons Quit by Oliver Jeffers. Looks like we don't agree with the official judges!

Last meeting before winner announced.
We had our last meeting today before the results are announced. We had several people missing so our final vote did not include them. Our winner is 'There are no cats in this book' which our members really enjoyed. Unfortunately we have not been able to read 'Can We Save the Tiger?' because they have not been delivered and we did not have any copies already. Hopefully we can review this book at a later date!

We looked at two books at our last meeting: A Monster Calls and Wolf Won't Bite. There were very different in style as far as illustrations go and written for different age groups. We tried to do some illustrations in the style of Emily Gravett which I think worked really well. We are putting them in the Kate Greenaway Gallery along with our pictures of Puffin Peter and Paul.
