Group status: we're sleeping
We are a group of 16 Year 9's who are keen readers and who have been given the opportunity to shadow the Carnegie as a reward after the hard work of Sats.
Some of our favourite authors are J.K Rowling, Brian Jacques, Eoin Colfer, Louise Rennison, Philip Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson, Robin Jarvis, Alan Gibbons, Anne Fine, Meg Cabot, Millie Murray, Louis Sachar...
As this is our first experience of shadowing we have discussed what makes a good book and the qualities we are looking for when choosing a winner. These include such things as having a good plot, providing tension, suspense, being catchy, having interesting characters and a good ending. We also talked about the importance of cover, title and blurb. Some of us felt that these were important as they are what initially attract us to a book. Others argued that they aren't really important because if all the books with bad covers weren't read we wouldn't have read a lot of good books.
