KCG@CKG group ready to read
For 2017 Shadowing our Year 8 and Year 9 Reading Group - 'The Bookologists' are shadowing both awards.
One of the highlights of the year is the Carnegie Conference held at our school. This is where pupils from other schools join us for the day to discuss the shortlisted Carnegie books, and try to convince other that their favourite should win. This is done through teams creating various presentations about their chosen book. In previous years we have had everything from drama productions to working models - all created in about 2 hours! We get to meet new people, have fantastic discussions, plenty of fun and CAKE! But will the others be able to make us change our mind?
We also visit our local Primary school Francis Baily and read and discuss the Kate Greenaway books with them. Before we go we practise reading aloud and holding the books so that the pupils can easily see the illustrations, this usually send us into fits of laughter as we read aloud, it adds to the fun of taking part in the award. Some of us practise reading to younger brothers and sisters at home.
