Charles Thorp Comprehensive School
Tyne and Wear,
Group status: We are looking forward to starting Greenaway with our Junior book group Parkhead RIOT Readers!

We are the Millennium R.I.O.T Readers & we like nothing more than getting stuck into a great book!

The Millennium RIOT Readers book group started in March 2012 with 7 members. We now have between 20 and 30 members including our online book reviewers. We meet every other Thursday in the LRC to discuss books and do activities. We shadowed the Carnegie Awards last year, have taken part in the North East Teenage Book Awards twice and had 3 cinema trips to see both of The Hobbit's and Catching Fire. We have been lucky enough to interview David Gatward, Dave Cousins, Keren David, Andy Briggs, Darren Shan, Teri Terry, Anne Cassidy, Cliff McNish & Tommy Donbavand. We love reading and all of our reading choices are completely different so there is always loads to chat about and recommend! We are a Guardian book group http://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2014/mar/19/top-tips-group-members-childrens-books-activities which we love to be a part of. We are always excited when the new Carnegie books are delivered and usually have our lists of books in the order in which we want to read them. This year we are also shadowing Greenaway with our Primary junior book group Parkhead RIOT Readers. We have good fun passing the books to each other and recommending the titles, what we liked about them or didn't like! We will be having our usual winners party for the final announcement.
