Mrs New, Pilton Shadowers

Where the World Ends

This book was chosen as the February read in my book group. I was excited about reading it due to it being based on real life events, but I have to say that I was first.

It follows the journey of a group of 'males' who go to the island to kill birds to bring home. However, all does not as it should. The boys end up stranded on the island (someone is supposed to get them at their end of their time but they don't show) with no real understanding of why. Their conclusion? That the end of the world had occurred.

It's a story of survival, friendship, and hope.

The story, although beautifully written to reveal the harsh conditions of the island, took a long time to get started. However, don't let this completely put you off as it is worth preserving with. An interesting read but not one that I believe competes with the gritty narratives of After the Fire and The Hate U Give.
