Sara and Hadiqa, Motley Moss

The Stars at Oktober Bend

We became very interested in this book when we heard that it was a romance. However, it just completely wasn't how we expected it to be. The plotline was very confusing, and it was really hard to focus and understand the story and language due to the poor level of grammar. Although the book was confusing because of the grammar, we have got to say that the use of poor grammar for Alice and the correct use of grammar for Manny was a very clever technique as it goes to show that Alice is still an immature character and is still suffering while Manny is mature, sensible and understanding. This was the only thing that completely impressed us. To be honest, we could not get to the end of the book or to the middle of it due to the messy and unorganised story line. As 14 year old girls, we weren't expecting such of a disappointment from this book as it appealed to us and our friends in an instant because it was a romance genre book. In our opinion we would rate this book as a 3.5 stars out of 5 due to its clever change in grammar to show character maturity.
