The Hate U Give

When I first saw the blurb of this book, I was really excited. It was my type of book. Angie Thomas bases this story on the murder of Emmett Till in 1955 when a white woman said she was offended by him in her family's grocery store. This ties in with Starr's friend Khalil, he did nothing wrong and was shot by a white police officer.
Let's tell you about the book:
Starr is 16 and lives in the poor neighbourhood, Garden Heights. It is only until she witnesses the shooting of her best friend Khalil by a white police officer thinking his hairbrush was a gun. Then things start to heat up in her town. But Starr's to afraid to say anything, it could get her killed. "What's the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn't be?"
