Lola, Camden School for Girls
Salt to the Sea
Four very different characters, with one goal in common, set off on a journey, trying to flee the war that broke their lives. Despite encounters with death and learning to trust one and other, they retell their story the wWorld War 2.
Ruta Sepetys put her heart into each and every character and that is what makes this novel powerful. Whether it is Joana saving another life, or Emilia admitting a dark secret, Alfred trying to understand or Florian realising the truth, they all have a story, like every other person drowned in the terrible incident.
This book was by far my favourite, as it ventured into the individual lives of these characters, separating them from many. Despite having multiple characters, the high level of writing draws you in, asking for more.
