Salt to the Sea

'Salt to the Sea' by Ruta Sepetys is a book of true emotion and a most amazing book. The story is set in Europe at the time of World War II and shows the views of four very different young people from very different backgrounds and how their lives join together in the twist and tangle of the war. It is a story of how war brings close those who are suffering and how it affects people.

Joanna, Emilia, Florian and Alfred, the four main characters, are some of many thousands of people trying to board the Wilhelm Gustloff, a ship that leads to safe, secure shores. Away from all of the calamity caused by the war. This is an educating novel as well as fictional story as it possesses emotions and feelings all made by this terrible event.

This was a truly engaging book and I think it definitely deserves to win. I highly recommend it and hope that if you read it, you will enjoy it as much as I did.
