Bryony, Turton & Edgworth C.E. Methodist Primary School
The story goes from a happy time to a sad time, until the family find a new place to live. The images are very vivid - the black hands personify the war coming - it is very clever. The writer tries to make the reader appreciate what it would be like to be affected by war and need to leave your home with your family and go somewhere far away to be safe. The pictures include lots of information too. It must have been very frightening, not just for the children, but the parents too. The children trusted their parents to keep them safe from harm. The story is written through the child's eyes. I enjoyed reading this book.
