Where the World Ends

It took a few chapters to get into this story because of the language & historic nature of the book but once I got my teeth stuck in I couldn't stop reading. Quill (the main protagonist) is a brilliant storyteller & just as he enthralls the boys on Warrior Stac he does the same with the reader.

This is a fantastic read and of my favourite's from the shortlist (so far) - set in 1727 we follow a group of boys & men from St Kilda as they set off for the annual sea bird harvest that takes place on the sea stacs. All seems to be going to plan until the boat that is mean to collect them from their isolated location doesn't arrive; no one knows why they have been abandoned and what ensues is a heart stopping tale of survival.

Not a book I would have picked up but I am glad I did, otherwise I would have missed out on one of the most atmospheric and heart wrenching stories I've read in recent years ... after reading you will be reaching for the history books to discover more about St Kilda.
