Cara, Chobham Academy Book Group
The story line grasps the reader’s attention within the first line “The year I turned twelve, I learned how to lie.” The atmosphere conveys in the 1940s setting. The characters are well described to give clear imagery; all of them are believe able and well developed. They are given many different emotions and portrayed uniquely to others in the story. The writer (Lauren Wolk) has used good language techniques to give the story emotion and life. In my opinion, this book really caught my attention. Exquisite phrases and graceful emotions shown. I definitely recommend this to the early teen generation. 4.5 stars out of 5.
