The Hate U Give
Thought this book was incredible. Sixteen year old Starr inhabits two worlds. That of the poor and somewhat dangerous neighbourhood where she was born and the elite, privileged and predominantly white prep school which she attends. When she is the only one to witness her unarmed, black best friend shot and killed by a white police officer she has to decide whether to speak out or not.
I could visualise all the places and the people really clearly. The characters all felt so real.
We are all aware that racism and injustice does exist but with luck and fantastic books like this, it may one day be a thing of the past.
