The Hate U Give
"The Hate U Give" is an amazing novel about a young girl named Starr who is a witness to the murder of her friend Khalil. When she saw this her two separate worlds of Garden Heights, the black neighbourhood hood in which she lives and the mainly white school of Williamson collide. It is about how you should speak out for what is right. It is also about racism which is a big problem in today's society.
My favourite character is Seven because he is very protective of his step-sisters Kenya, Lyrica and the step-sister he lives with, Starr. I like this because no matter what happens he is always willing to protect them. I also like Kenya because she encourages Starr to speak out that it isn't right that a white police officer shouldn't go to jail for shooting a black man.
My least favourite character was Halley because she is always annoying Starr and Maya, I am glad she is not a main character.
I found this book interesting because it never sees to get dull and it never seems to go on forever even though when you look back you are on the same scene as you were 6-7 pages ago. It is very well written.
I would recommend this book to both genders aged 13+ because there is a lot of violence, swearing and it is very emotional. I would give this book 4 stars.
