Sam, Burford School Carnegie Shadowers
Railhead is by Phillip Reeve. It details the adventures of Zen Starling, a common thief who rides The Great Network, an interstellar railroad connecting the different planets ridden by sentient trains. He is recruited by the mysterious Raven to steal the Pyxis, an ancient artefact that could either open a new line to an unknown galaxy, or destroy the entire network. Or both.
This is a science fiction story with many exciting twists and turns, and some surprising characters. It is not all action and adventure, however. There are many funny scenes, but some of them are also some sad as well. I would recommend this book to anyone over 12 years of age, but specifically to teenage fans of sci-fi and action books.
