Carolyn, A&H Shadowers

The Bone Sparrow

After reading the Carnegie shortlist, I think this would be an excellent choice for the win. It is beautifully written, and its touches of magic realism help balance the disturbing and harsh reality of life in an Australian refugee detention centre. The book brings attention to a current human rights crisis while still being an enjoyable - though heartbreaking - book to read. I really enjoyed this one, and think teens interested in world issues would as well.
