The Stars at Oktober Bend

"The Stars at Oktober Bend" is poetic and experimental, and grazes some modern-day issues like sexual assault, disability, poverty, and refugees. I thought it was a sensitive, intimate, and gritty look into the lives of families living in poverty, though I wish the refugee aspect had been more well-formed. It was quite long and extremely descriptive, and I found that despite its relatively small scope there were a lot of details, threads, and recurring images that I felt burdened to keep up with. I know a lot of people love this book for many of the reasons I hoped I would too, but somehow in practice it just wasn't my thing!
