Salt to the Sea
Salt to the Sea is a shocking, distressingly raw book.
Set during WW2, SttC follows four main characters, each in first person organised into individual chapters. As it is WW2, distress and discrimination is common, and so is death. The four characters' stories intersect as the book progresses, creating one unified plot by the end.
SttC shows some of the most terrible war crimes, and makes them known in an easily consumable form factor. Even though the book is fictional, some of the incidences are true, such as the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff, killing over 9000 people.
Written in a stunningly tense way, SttC puts history into a fascinating story. I strongly recommend SttC to everyone.
