Wolf Hollow, by Laura Wolk, is a deeply moving yet beautiful novel which explores themes of love, secrecy, trust and friendship. We are introduced to the unexpected, loving relationship between Annabelle and Toby, a returned WWI soldier, therefore encouraged to reflect on how we ourselves perceive others. The importance of human rights and treating everyone fairly is emphasised through Annabelle's persistent fight for justice. This book had me gripped from start to finish with the perfect balance of suspense and emotion. It really does make you consider the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" as individual characters begin to develop. As a result, we are reminded that regardless of our appearance, race or background, it's what's on the inside, our personality, feelings and actions that define us.
