Apsara, Oxford High School

Saint Death

Arturo is a boy who lives in the slums of Anapra, on the border of Mexico. His life is not the best, but it is normal. He works for his living in the day, earning just enough to survive, then sleeps in his shack of crates at night. But when his friend Faustino, who he hasn't seen for a year, turns up out of the blue with a money debt and a plea for help, his life is turned upside down. Faustino needs Arturo to gamble for 1000 dollars by the next night, but can Arturo cheat luck against all the odds?
This book really opens your eyes about other parts of the world where suffering is happening every day, although it's hard to imagine if you are lucky enough not to live there. I really loved this book, although it was quite scary at the end. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
