Where the World Ends
An intriguing yet thrilling page-turner, Where the World Ends transports your mind, and soul to the summer of 1727. A group of 12 men and boys from the island of Hirta are departing on their annual fowling trip to Warrior's Stack, a remote pile of rocks jutting out of the sea. However, the expected return boat has not appeared. With nothing but cliffs and an expanse of sea around them, the group start to wonder whether they too will eventually wash away with the tide.
Geraldine McCaughrean has woven a tapestry of constantly changing emotions for us to experience. We are thrown onto this sea stack with the fowling group, ignoring the grim reality by spinning tales to pass the time. A believable tale of hope and survival, I could practically hear the crashing waves below me as I read this book.
