Charlie, BGS Shadowers
After the Fire
This book is about a Christian extremist denomination, The Lord's Legion, that resides in the middle of the Texan desert. It follows the life of a girl called Moonbeam who was born inside the compound belonging to The Lord's Legion.
I like how the entire book is made up of flashbacks while Moonbeam is in the George W. Bush Memorial Center; this gives a unique feel to the story, and it is a good way for the author to gradually release information about The Lord's Legion. I think overall that this is a very good book, although I am not a fan of the number of people that are killed off during or after the fire - Alice, Nate, and Father John, to name a few. However, I suppose this is a way to get the point across of how awful The Lord's Legion is.
The idea of a cult that renounces all outside contact and has such a violent attitude towards Judgement Day is refreshing and interesting, possible in real life but not enough to imprison the author's creativity.
