Nicole, Taylor Reading Icons.

Anthony McGowan's third installment to the 'Our Kenny and Nicky' series Rook was a Semi accurate depiction of what it's like in the life of a teenager. Nicky is struggling with life troubles, crushing on girls, school bullies, and an unexpected visit to the headmistresses office. i didn't understand the symbolism in the story but i think that was partially to the fact that i hadn't read the first two novels in the series and the rest to the fact that i'm inept at understanding symbolism. After some deliberation with my family and a quick re-read everything sort of makes sense. the rook found at the beginning of the novel represents Nicky's family's struggles and the stress around them. (keeping the rook alive) If your not looking for the symbolism or your not good at seeing it, this book may not be for you as the story seems a bit daft, otherwise the story is excellent and worth the read (again if symbolism is your thing!)
