Mrs Sullivan, Northampton Academy

The Stars at Oktober Bend

After a slow start I became totally drawn into this beautiful tale of Alice and her brave journey to becoming fifteen after being stuck at ‘number twelve’ following the traumatic events of her past. It was lyrical and moving, traumatic and courageous, and kept me thinking and questioning throughout. I’m not entirely sure who I would recommend this book to as I think it would only appeal to a certain kind of reader, but it is a story I will remember for some time to come whether it wins or not.
