Anna, St Helen and St Katharine
The Stars at Oktober Bend
I began reading this book expecting the usual plot of: boy meets girl and they end up together. Not 100% correct. Alice is a girl. Manny is a boy. However, part of Alice is broken but I will let you find out what part and Manny quite literally runs from his past. Alice’s tragic history and Manny’s burning curiosity of why there is a girl who sits on her roof leaving poems for him, brings them together. Finding out how this relationship develops makes this one of the most moving novels I think I will ever read.
Even though at times it was confusing, due to the lack of capital letters in Alice’s chapters, I still would recommend this book to; anyone who does not mind having a little cry (trust me, I was nearly out of tissues…), anyone who likes a bit of poetry (one every three pages or so) or someone who just wants to see how bad a girl’s life can get. I will not give too much away but, to make up for all of this seeming dystopia, I can promise a quite happy ending.
