Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth

Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth is a hard book to review. Personally, I thought that the plot was predictable, the characterization was two dimensional, and the writing style was over simplistic. But I am not the intended audience, this book is rated 9+, I am 14. This makes it hard to put this book in comparison, in areas of plot, characters and writing style, to the rest of the short list, all at least 11+. A book is designed for a target audience, did this book fulfill those requirements? Unfortunately I don't have any nine year olds to ask, and I certainly don't have any that could read Beck and then compare.
On the other hand, there were a couple of good jokes, I must admit I laughed.
