Salt to the Sea
Top quality historical fiction, expertly researched, humanely told. I found this book particularly poignant in the light of the current refugee crisis, and I learned a lot - not only about the tragic sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff, but about the Amber Room treasure, and the situation in the Baltic during WW2. Full of suspense and tension which gradually builds: you knew some of the characters would not survive the tragedy, but who?
