Daniel, Caister Academy

Beck

Beck is an in-dept novel about a boy and his life trying to fit in and find a home. This book has detailed like I've never seen before- Mal Peet has such an image of everything that happens in this book that pages are used to describe an environment or a feeling. I first thought this book was boring but the more I read the more I wanted to read. But like everything it has it's flaws. The story doesn't move along at a fast pace and this makes some sections feel like half the book. Also, some sections contained a vast amount of swearing and the majority of this was done for humour. I believe this was poorly done and that it doesn't blend well with the rest of the novel.
