Salt to the Sea

Salt to the sea is an interesting historical novel regarding refugees in the second world war. It follows the journeys of 4 refugees: Florian, Alfred, Joanna and Emilia. Before I can cover the literary techniques used, I would like to address the fact that one can work out the ending by reading the blurb and his ruined the effect for me a little. The book switches between the minds of each person, and throughout the novel their separate stories intertwine. Everyone has a dark secret about their life, the ending of each chapter is usually a line regarding this, which eventually gets repetitive. Good characterisation, but little description.
