Ms McCabe, Brooke Weston Academy
An emotional book set during WWII which tells the story of Annabelle, a sweet young girl whose idyllic life is shattered by the arrival of a nasty bully called Betty, who moves to Wolf Hollow to live with her grandparents and decides to make Annabelle her main target. When Betty goes missing Annabelle's friend Toby, a WWI veteran and recluse, who people think of as 'strange' has the finger of blame pointed at him. Annabelle is determined to protect him and prove his innocence before it is too late, even if it means that she has to tell a few lies along the way. A powerful story dealing with bullying, prejudice, bigotry and the search for justice with a bitter sweet ending. Deserves it's comparisons with the classic Harper Lee's 'To Kill a Mockingbird'
