Salt to the Sea
'Salt to the Sea' is a truly gripping novel set in Germany during World War II. The story follows four refugees whose paths cross trying to flee the advancing Russian forces. All four endure long and harrowing journeys towards ships that promise freedom and safety...
I enjoyed the action and tension in this book and it is so far removed from the life I know today. The refugees had to go to incredible measures in order to try to escape a war ravaged country. There is great sadness, too. Far more people arrived on the beaches than the ships could ever hold. I liked the main characters in this book; they were interesting people with secrets of their own.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy historical stories laced with tension and tragedy.
