Railhead is a science-fiction book, written by Philip Reeve, aimed at people aged 12-20.
Before I read Railhead, I expected it to be a fast paced thriller. However that was based on one poster that I had stopped to read. The book did live up to my expectations though; it was a fast paced thriller, but with a genius twist of science-fiction mixed in.
The book was about a boy called Zen Starling and his motorik, Nora. In the world that Railhead is based in, everybody lives happily under the command of the Guardians. However, the Starlings managed to slip through a gap and end up at the bottom end of the society, stealing to survive. Zen is then hired by a mysterious person called Raven. Raven asked Zen to steal a small box from the Noon train, then an incident occurs and there is a huge disaster.
Personally, I liked that chapter on board the Noon train and the events that followed. Also I liked the ending, which was completely unexpected. The only bit I disliked about the book was the Guardians, they seemed a bit unnecessary.
I definitely recommend this book, there are so many genres Railhead could fit into. I think that anybody could like this book, no matter what their views on science-Fiction.
