Phoebe, The Hewett Academy Norwich
Salt to the Sea
I found this book very gripping and powerful.
I found that I did believe in the characters and my favourite was the 'shoe poet/maker': I thought his role was fantastic because he could tell everyone's backgrounds and stories just by looking at their shoes. It was quite hard to follow the story as there were 4 different points of view, so sometimes I had to flick back to see what had happened.
I thought the setting and the atmosphere were well written, and the dialogue was believable.
At times, the story was boring, but at others it was interesting, and I did get really involved with the story which I would say is for older readers as it got quite violent. I would read another book by this author.
