The Bone Sparrow
This book, following the life of Subhi, a refugee who has lived in a camp where they are fed slops and never have enough rations, and Jimmy, a local girl who can't read her dead mother's journal. It is heartbreaking to read about the hardships that Subhi has to endure every day, and how the 'Jackets' don't try and do anything to help them. The book is deeply thoughtful and emotional, especially when Eli dies at the hands of one of the nastiest Jackets.
