Paige, de Stafford School
Beck was an incredible book as it showed a young boy, whose name is Beck, and his progression through his difficult and unforgiving life. It starts with Beck's back story and how he was in a Christian orphanage in Liverpool, England. It shows him getting transported to Canada and travelling from place to place with no one to love or to care about him.
This book is very good as it shows Beck's way of life and it delves into difficult issues like how Beck is a black person in the early 1900s. He is often discriminated against and no one wishes to care about him due to his race. He is also under-educated so he cannot connect with the richer more educated people.
